Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten program is for children in their last year before they attend school. Allow me to tell you a bit about our room and what we get up to during our Kinder Program. The children love using their skills and creativity with the different construction sets we have. We also love exploring different animal tables set up with natural materials that enable our imaginations to run wild. Arts and crafts are one of our favourite things to do at Kinder. I like to provide many open ended art activities that allow children to demonstrate their own creativity however; do provide structured ones at times also.

Children have access to an art trolley so that they can construct things as they wish, thereby giving them responsibility for their learning and sense of freedom and choice. Children explore life through their senses so I like to provide sensory activities such as cooking, play dough, slime, various finger painting activities, rice play, instrument play, etc. We have permanent learning areas that the children rely on being there such as the wooden block corner, dramatic play corner (home corner), puzzle shelf, doll house, book corner, self help construction area, rainbow rice trough and two computers.

We have group times also where children have the opportunity to share things with the group working on their communication and language skills as well as confidence. Show and tell is a highlight for most children as they get to take the floor and gauge everyone’s attention. We also learn about various topics through discussion, visuals, stories and songs. Through songs and stories we work on our number and letter recognition.

Our main goal at Little Scooters Kindergarten however, is building our social and emotional skills to prepare us for School and life. I like to help build children’s self esteem to help them become confident, happy individuals. At Little Scooters we like to learn through play, building on our developmental areas such as fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, creative and language by first engaging our interests and strengths.

We have a flexible program that is to a large extent governed by the children’s interests, so it is co-constructed with a balance of child and teacher initiation. We like very much for parents to be involved in their child’s experiences at Kinder so the level of communication is kept open through appointments, phone calls and writing. This is just a brief introduction into Little Scooters Kindergarten. Come down and check it out if you would like to know more.
